Statement
The
Fiji Museum aims to be a dynamic institution for the preservation of the
country's national heritage. This national heritage is understood to encompass
the culture and history of the people of Fiji, and their relationship
with the people of the South Pacific and the rest of the world.
Mission
Statement
The
mission of the museum is to preserve its valuable collection and present
it to the public. In this effort, the establishment of a new museum/centre for Culture
and the Arts (CCA) is key to the effective support of Museum activities.
Specific to these activities is the:

Promotion of greater cross-cultural understanding.

The preservation and protection of the nation's cultural heritage.

Encouraging greater awareness of the nation's heritage through special
education programmes.
Objectives
To
meet this mission, it is the objective of the Museum to undertake more
marketing, effective
research, documentation, and presentation of historical artifacts, and
the development of activities aimed at stimulating interest in culture
and the arts. To this end, the museum envisages as its immediate objectives
the following areas: preservation, education, management of, and fiscal
responsibility for, the culture of its community. Specifically:
Preservation.

Maintain
and develop facilities which protect the collections in a controlled
environment, free of congestion, with regulated light, temperature
and humidity levels; and safe from damage by pests.

Create
an environment which presents the nation's history and culture in
an effective and inviting atmosphere.
Education.
Heritage
Management.
Fiscal
Responsibility.

Develop
a revenue base to assure the museum's ongoing financial viability
through revenue-generating projects as well as grants from the government,
corporate sector and overseas development agencies.

Strengthen
the museum's professional and administrative capabilities and staff
numbers.
